Het vergeten Palestijnse volk.

Helemaal akkoord! De bloedige aanslag van Hamas[1] op Israël op 7 oktober 2023[2] is verwerpelijk. 1.200 mensen werden vermoord en 250 mensen gegijzeld en ontvoerd naar Gaza. Er werd terecht met afschuw gereageerd maar eens het stof van de aanval en de eerste emoties waren gaan liggen, kwam de onvermijdelijke vraag[3] hoe het mogelijk was dat Hamas zo massaal de hoogtechnologisch beveiligde en nauwelijks doordringbare grens[4] met Israël kon doorbreken. De Israëlische regering begon met een alles vernietigende en nietsontziende oorlog, alsof de plannen reeds lang op tafel lagen. Onderhandelen om de gijzelaars vrij te krijgen was geen optie. Israël[5] bleek op de hoogte te zijn van de plannen van Hamas wat de hypothese versterkt dat de aanval van Hamas het ontbrekende excuus voor Israël was om een allesvernietigende en nietsontziende oorlog te beginnen in Gaza. Een niet te rechtvaardigen oorlog. Israël had immers een alternatief. Het land beschikt over de technologie om doelgericht leiders[6] van terroristische organisaties op te sporen en uit te schakelen zoals ze reeds meerdere keren gedaan hebben. Één voor één argumenten die aantonen dat Israël, het vernietigen van Gaza en verdrijven[7] van de Palestijnen uit Gaza als enige doel heeft.

Na anderhalf jaar oorlog zijn ruim 60.000[8] Palestijnse burgers omgekomen en meer dan 100.000 mensen zijn gewond geraakt. 70%[9] van Gaza is verwoest. De oorlog zal geen einde maken aan het terrorisme, integendeel, de oorlog voedt het terrorisme van morgen zoals Hamas het resultaat is van tientallen jaren onderdrukking van het Palestijnse volk door Israël. Het Hamas-terrorisme, waar Israël deels zelf de oorzaak van is, bestrijd je niet met een oorlog tegen het machteloze, onderdrukte en onschuldige Palestijnse volk.

Daarom is militaire steun aan Israël door buitenlandse mogendheden eveneens een oorlogsmisdaad. Toch leverde Amerika onder president Biden sinds oktober 2023 voor 22 miljard[10] dollar wapens aan Israël. President Trump gaat door met alweer een levering van 7 miljard[11] dollar aan wapens.

Europa kijkt verdeeld toe maar onderneemt niets tegen Israël[12]. Na anderhalf jaar oorlog en na de veroordeling van het Internationaal Strafhof[13] in Den Haag roept Europa nog steeds niet op tot een boycot van Israël, is er geen veroordeling[14] van de oorlog. Hypocriet hoe Europa huivert voor extreemrechts binnen eigen grenzen maar anderzijds carte blanche geeft aan de  extreem-rechtse regering van Netanyahu. Heeft Europa niets geleerd uit zijn eigen bloedige geschiedenis en uit de Holocaust? Het ontbreekt Europa aan sterk moreel leiderschap en langetermijnvisie om vrede te bewaren.   Terwijl Poetin de voorbije twee decennia evolueerde van een pseudodemocraat tot een militaire dictator bleef Europa gas aankopen van Rusland, zelfs na de annexatie[15] van de Krim en dit zelfs terwijl het IPCC al ruim dertig jaar hamert op het verminderen van het gebruik van fossiele brandstoffen. We hebben Poetin zijn oorlogsmachine mee gefinancierd[16]. Onze hypocriete en kortzichtige houding ten aanzien van de klimaatcrisis, ten aanzien van Rusland en Israël ondermijnt op lange termijn onze democratie en welvaart, en is een voedingsbodem voor extreem rechts.

The forgotten Palestinian People.

Totally agree! The bloody attack by Hamas on Israel on October 7, 2023 is reprehensible. 1,200 people were murdered and 250 people were taken hostage and kidnapped to Gaza. There was rightly a horror reaction, but once the dust of the attack and the initial emotions had settled, the inevitable question arose as to how it was possible that Hamas was able to breach the high-tech secured and almost impenetrable border with Israel in such a massive way. The Israeli government started an all-destructive and ruthless war, as if the plans had been on the table for a long time. Negotiating to free the hostages was not an option. Israel turned out to be aware of Hamas' plans, which strengthens the hypothesis that the Hamas attack was the missing excuse for Israel to start an all-destructive and ruthless war in Gaza. An unjustifiable war. After all, Israel had an alternative. The country has the technology to specifically track down and eliminate leaders of terrorist organizations, as they have done several times before. One by one, arguments that show that Israel's only goal is to destroy Gaza and expel the Palestinians from Gaza. After a year and a half of war, more than 60,000 Palestinian civilians have died and more than 100,000 people have been injured. 70% of Gaza has been destroyed. The war will not put an end to terrorism, on the contrary, the war feeds the terrorism of tomorrow, just as Hamas is the result of decades of oppression of the Palestinian people by Israel. Hamas terrorism, of which Israel itself is partly the cause, cannot be fought with a war against the powerless, oppressed and innocent Palestinian people. That is why military support to Israel by foreign powers is also a war crime. Yet, under President Biden, America has supplied Israel with $22 billion in weapons since October 2023. President Trump is continuing with another delivery of $7 billion in weapons. Europe looks on divided but does nothing against Israel. After a year and a half of war and after the conviction of the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Europe still does not call for a boycott of Israel, there is no condemnation of the war. Hypocritical how Europe shudders at the extreme right within its own borders but on the other hand gives carte blanche to the extreme right government of Netanyahu. Has Europe learned nothing from its own bloody history and from the Holocaust? Europe lacks strong moral leadership and long-term vision to maintain peace. While Putin evolved from a pseudo-democrat to a military dictator over the past decades, Europe continued to buy gas from Russia, even after the annexation of Crimea and this even while the IPCC has been hammering on reducing the use of fossil fuels for more than thirty years. We have helped finance Putin's war machine. Our hypocritical and short-sighted attitude towards the climate crisis, towards Russia and Israel undermines our democracy and prosperity in the long term, and is a breeding ground for the extreme right. Once the war is over, Israel will open the borders of Gaza. Hundreds of thousands of Gazans will understandably try to flee their completely destroyed country and their hopeless situation, which is exactly the goal of the far-right Israeli government. A new wave of refugees will flood Europe.
